Phonetician Required (IPA Audio Recording) Full Time

We are seeking a trained phonetician capable of producing the vast majority of speech sounds listed in the IPA, including some relatively obscure speech sounds.

The selected candidate will be utilized to record a minimum of 2-3 hours of audio. This will include recording the actual phonetic speech sounds and coaching on how to physically produce many of the IPA speech sounds.

If the selected candidate’s performance is strong, follow up content creation assignments may be available on various linguistics subjects.

Requirements:

1. Candidates must have an MA degree in linguistics (or a related discipline) or comparable professional experience in phonetics.

2. Candidates must be able to produce objectively accurate phonetic speech sounds (based on the IPA), including most ejectives and implosives. If you’re not already knowledgeable about what an implosive is and trained to produce one, unfortunately, you will not meet the qualifications for this position.

3. Candidates must have a suitable microphone (or be willing and able to acquire one) capable of recording high quality, clean audio. Ideally, candidates will also possess a camera capable of recording good quality video (for the purpose of capturing a closeup of their lower face while producing phonetic speech sounds).

4. Candidates must be capable of providing helpful coaching to inexperienced learners on how to physically produce a large variety of speech sounds, including exotic speech sounds that do not appear in English.

No video or audio editing work will be required. The selected candidate will simply need to record and submit the require audio files.

This is a remote work role and does not require travel. Location is not a factor.

Payment is based on the amount of video recorded and the selected candidate will be paid at a rate of $200 USD per hour of working time for recording IPA speech sounds and $100 USD per hour of recorded instructional audio of how to produce each speech sound.
